Lynne Weintraub: Karl Rove has nerve to complain about deficits
To the editor:
I find it outrageous that Karl Rove chose to focus his recent speech at the University of Massachusetts on the federal budget deficit and demands for cuts in social programs as the only solution.
Rove knows very well that the deficit was caused by two (unfunded) wars and huge new tax breaks for the wealthy — he was one of the architects of these debacles during the Bush presidencies.
Isn’t it odd that Republicans like Rove were blissfully unaware of the rapidly escalating budget deficit when they were crafting these policies, but now that a Democrat is trying to get us out of the hole (without tipping us right back into recession), they’re suddenly in a panic about it?
