Rick McNeil: Feeling overlooked by area legislators
To the editor:
Year ago when I wrote to legislators I would always get a prompt reply. Sometime around 2002, my state senator even called me on the phone to discuss something. Nowadays, I’m hard pressed to get any kind of response from legislators (despite the good intention of their aides). Even follow-up calls are ignored. Are other people experiencing this as well?
These elected officials are supposed to be serving us but it sure doesn’t feel that way. I’m also disturbed that some legislators opposed Gov. Patrick’s budget proposal, instead favoring a plan that would increase the cigarette tax — essentially a tax on the poor Another disturbing trend is rising tuition prices that put a higher burden on young people. This is not a healthy democracy and I am receptive to a changing of the guard.
