Fire at Lenox elderly housing injures resident

LENOX (AP) — Authorities say a fire in an apartment building for senior citizens in Lenox that sent a resident to the hospital was intentionally set.

The fire in the Curtis building was reported at about 7:15 p.m. Thursday.

A spokeswoman for the state Fire Marshal’s office says law enforcement is aware of the location of the person who set the fire in the second-floor apartment.

Nearly 60 people were displaced and the blaze caused an estimated $500,000 in damage.

There was one additional civilian injury and one minor firefighter injury.

Fire Chief Daniel Clifford tells The Berkshire Eagle (http://bit.ly/152XRHT ) emergency personnel administered CPR on the injured resident to get her pulse back. The resident, whose name was not disclosed, was taken to a Pittsfield hospital then flown to a Worcester hospital in critical condition.
