Northampton’s R.K. Finn Ryan Road school marks Cambodian New Year
Area residents are invited to R.K. Finn Ryan Road School’s annual Cambodian New Year Celebration, set for April 11 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the school in Florence.
This year’s sixth annual festival, led by the school’s Cambodian families, features dance, art, music and food from the southeast Asian nation. During the day, school parent Rouen Chea will speak with students about Khmer culture and students will prepare food and decorations for the event.
The evening’s celebration will feature Cambodian dances performed by Ryan Road students in traditional costumes. The dances are once again directed by school parent Sophal Ding.
The Cambodian New Year holiday lasts for three days in April to mark the end of the harvest season.
School Principal Margaret Riddle said last year’s event at Ryan Road drew more than 150 students, staff and community members.
For details, call the school’s main office, 587-1550.
