Frontier school evacuated after live bullet found
SOUTH DEERFIELD — Frontier Regional School was evacuated Wednesday night after a single live round of ammunition was found in the halls.
At 6:45 p.m., a .22-caliber rifle round was discovered by a custodian in a hall near the boys’ locker room, according to Deerfield Police Chief John Paciorek Jr.
Sgt. Michael Krusiewski responded and began an evacuation of the building, where students were holding a dress rehearsal for an upcoming talent show.
Paciorek said no weapon or additional ammunition was found, and he has no reason to believe anyone was in danger. Still, he said, police and the school are taking extra precautions.
“All of our safety protocols are in place,” he said. “There will also be additional security personnel present at the school for the coming days.”
Paciorek said his department has worked with local schools to make sure emergency response plans are in place.
He said state and local police, as well as the principals and superintendents of nearby schools, have been notified of the incident.
