Virginia M. Suchecki: Praise for Florence Savings Bank
To the editor:
I would like to commend Florence Savings Bank for their recent “Adopt A Pet” campaign. As an avid cat lover, I was pleased to read that cats were being adopted through a very safe and thorough manner. These types of events help out Dakin Animal Shelter as well as others in placing animals in loving homes. Until more people take actions to get the animals spayed/neutered, there will always be an issue with over population, especially in cats.
I urge all readers that even if you have a stray cat coming around, to contact either animal control in your town, Dakin, or the MSPCA with tips on how to safely capture the animal in order for it to be spayed or neutered. I am sure that many local veterinarians will even offer assistance in payment of these procedures.
I am also aware that many of these animals are “surrendered” due to circumstances beyond the owner’s control.
And please, if you notice anyone starting to “collect” animals (I was a cat hoarder) get help for them. That worked for me. There are many emotional reasons why someone starts to take in animals and help is needed before it gets way out of control. I am now the proud owner of only three beautiful cats, and that’s a number I can deal with.
