Roxanne Labato-Bailey: Cartoon about Catholic Church ‘grotesque’
To the editor:
I was disagreeably surprised by the blatantly anti-Catholic cartoon you posted in the weekend editorials. I wanted to think that the Gazette was unbiased. I was wrong. The cartoon was grotesque. Its text was bigoted. The Catholic Church is more than aware of its troubles.
It doesn’t need mean-spirited cartoons to rub salt in its wounds.
We are now in a time of transition and we hope for the best. I would advise those in the public eye to be more objective and less judgmental. The only reason that the Catholic Church is more publicized is because of its size. I defy anyone to look into their own institutions, religious, medical, political, and find perfection. The human state is imperfect. There will always be those in power that abuse it. There will always be victims. Hopefully there will be those within those institutions that will try to solve problems and make things right. Please don’t make matters worse.
