BIRCH TREES AND FOG
Springfield Road, Belchertown
Photograph and text by Julius Lester of Belchertown
I love the way fog softens the landscape, and especially the way its gauzy whiteness melds with the more complex whiteness of the birch trees. I enjoy the graceful curve of these particular birches which are still bent from the ice storm of late October 2011. When a landscaper asked me if I wanted them cut down, I responded, “They’re still alive! At age 74 I feel a little bent myself, but I am not ready to be cut down.”
This photograph, taken last month, was created with a digital SLR camera with a 24-85mm zoom lens.
