Let fiction be fiction, not belief system
To the editor:
Regarding your two recent columns on the relationship between “Downton Abbey” and one’s political leanings, I would like to say that it is entirely possible to enjoy the verisimilitudes of fiction without it being a reflection of one’s belief system. I, for example, enjoyed the 1970s BBC production “I, Claudius” and yet do not support a return to imperial rule. I likewise watch “Breaking Bad” and feel no inclination whatsoever to cook meth.
I shudder to think what works your learned authors would produce should they become fans of “Dexter.”
Further, if we busy ourselves with this nonsense all day — who shall tend the fields?
