A call to educate oneself about Vermont Yankee plant

To the editor:

Today, Vermont Yankee goes on trial — twice.

Three Northampton women, Frances Crowe, Paki Wieland and Nancy First, along with Ellen Graves, Betsy Corner and Hattie Nestel, take the stand in a Brattleboro courtroom in defense of their action at the Vermont Yankee nuclear power plant.

Their protests persist to illuminate the harmful events already happening to the surrounding environment and the far greater ones that are possible.

Tonight, at the First Churches on Main Street in Northampton, Dr. Ira Helfand and Deb Katz present a talk titled “Vermont Yankee Nuclear: The Report from Fukushima.” The program begins at 7 p.m.

From their years of experience as a physician and an anti-nuclear activist, they will make clear the ever-present danger Vermont Yankee presents.

Support our activists in court who continually put their comfort on the line for us by showing up for this talk. It is our responsibility to become more knowledgeable and join our voices with those who consistently talk truth to power.
