THE DUST BOWL

Last summer, I read Timothy Egan’s book “The Worst Hard Time: The Untold Story of Those Who Survived the Great American Dust Bowl,” an account of what it was like to live through hell on the High Plains in the 1930s. On Sunday at 8 p.m., PBS airs “The Dust Bowl,” a Ken Burns documentary based in part on Egan’s work. A look at that largely man-made disaster is a timely reminder about the perils of tampering with nature.
