Forum on late start for Northampton High School set for Nov. 7
NORTHAMPTON — A public forum on a proposed later school bell for Northampton High School has been rescheduled to Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium.
The timing of the forum, initially scheduled for Oct. 29, was shifted due to tropical storm Sandy.
Moderated by Superintendent Brian Salzer, the meeting will outline two later start proposals the School Committee is scheduled to vote on Nov. 8. Both proposals would also lengthen the elementary school day.
The first proposal would move the NHS start time from 7:30 a.m. to 8:15 a.m. by shifting the start time at JFK Middle School 15 minutes earlier to 7:40 a.m. The elementary schools would start five minutes later at 8:55 a.m and would end the day 20 minutes later at 3:25 p.m.
The second proposal would keep JFK’s start time at 7:55 a.m. and would start the high school at 8:30 a.m. Elementary schools would begin at 9 a.m. and end at 3:30 p.m. under this plan.
