The Kollmorgen Corp. has developed a new rate table for testing rate gyros and inertial guidance systems. It features gear-driven systems and provides programmed table rates over a dynamic speed range of 30,000 to 1.

Mayor Wallace Puchalski has been resting at his home following a stay at the Cooley Dickinson Hospital where he was treated for nervous exhaustion. He has had his telephone number changed and the new number is not given out at the request of the mayor.

John C. Chakalos, a Connecticut developer, said today he still plans to have the Zoning Board of Appeals hear his application for a nursing home on Haydenville Road, despite the Planning Board’s negative recommendation.

Acting on the recommendation of the School Committee, Mayor David B. Musante Jr. has appointed members to four committees to coordinate renovations to two elementary schools and construction of a third in the city. Committees have been formed for renovations to the Bridge Street School and the Leeds Elementary School, and for construction of a new Florence Grammar School.

Northampton High School Principal Beth Singer is confident that with tutoring all seniors will pass the MCAS exams and receive their diplomas next spring. Singer’s report to the school committee Thursday was one of several about MCAS test results and the ongoing efforts to help students improve their scores.

The first new building project under the city’s new downtown architecture standards was approved Thursday by the Central Business and Architecture Committee. The panel waived design criteria for the conversion of a shed near the old firehouse on Masonic Street into a single-family residence.
