Photo Gallery: Seize the moment

JERREY ROBERTS
While looking for pictures at Childs Park in Northampton Sept. 24, a passerby saw me and asked, "Are you taking a picture of Screechy?" To which I, of course, replied, "What?" He then pointed out this screech owl nesting a a tree in the southeast corner of the park. I had to squint to see Screechy, her (or his?) gray feathers and the gray bark of the tree were in awful near-dusk light. I thought I'd try again some day when the light was better, but I remember the passerby saying, "sometimes she's here, sometimes not". I figured Screechy+me+good light might not happen anytime soon, so I grabbed a tripod, a flash and a 400mm lens from my car and seized the moment.

While I was looking for pictures at Childs Park in Northampton late last month, a passerby saw me and asked, “Are you taking a picture of Screechy?” To which I, of course, replied, “What?” He then pointed out this screech owl nesting in a tree in the southeast corner of the park. I had to squint to see Screechy, since her (or his?) gray feathers and the gray bark of the tree were in awful near-dusk light. I thought I’d try again some day when the light was better, but I remember the passerby saying, “Sometimes she’s here, sometimes not.” I figured Screechy+me+good light might not happen anytime soon, so I grabbed a tripod, a flash and a 400mm lens from my car and seized the moment.
