Wednesday’s college recaps: UMass baseball falls to Boston College, 7-6
Despite a five-run third inning, the University of Massachusetts baseball team fell on the road, 7-6, to Boston College in Chestnut Hill.
Adam Picard and Dylan Begin (one RBI) each went 2 for 4 and scored a run. Picard added three RBIs.
Tim Cassidy pitched four innings, striking out four and allowing five earned runs on five hits and three walks in the loss.
Amherst 9, Springfield 4 — The Lord Jeffs (12-3) opened their home slate with a bang as they put up 14 hits in the attack.
Six Jeffs had multi-hit days, led by Conner Gunn’s 3 for 4, two RBIs and a run scored performance in the win.
Smith 7, Clark 6; Clark 3, Smith 2 — The Pioneers split the doubleheader. In the first game, Gina Martucci went 3 for 3 with a run scored while Allison Snyder finished 3 for 4 with two runs scored and one RBI in the win.
In Game 2, Joanna Giordano (one RBI) was the only Pioneer with two hits.
Amherst 14, Wesleyan 10 — Devin Acton, Kane Haffey and Aaron Mathias each scored three goals in the Jeffs road win.
Amherst 8, Wesleyan 4 — Mwghan Mills and Alex Philie led the Jeffs to the win, both contributing two goals.
Westfield St. 18, Smith 11 — Jessica Lillquist’s six-goal effort wasn’t enough to lift the Pioneers to the home win.
Babson 17, Mt. Holyoke 8 — Liz Randolph scored three goals and Julia Bell added two, but the Lyons fell at home.
