Amherst Regional School District director of finances Robert Detweiler leaves job

Robert Detweiler, who began his tenure with the district’s business office in 2005, recently left the position.

Though not officially announced, a person who answered Detweiler’s phone in the business office Thursday said he is no longer working for the district and referred questions about his departure to the office of Superintendent Maria Geryk. She did not return calls or emails seeking more information.

Detweiler was not present for the release of the proposed regional school budget for fiscal year 2015 to the Amherst-Pelham Regional School Committee Tuesday night.

Detweiler replaced Paul Carlson, a 26-year-employee who retired nine years ago,. Detweiler was hired after completing a school business manager internship at Frontier Regional and Union 38 school districts. Prior to that, Detweiler, a Deerfield resident, worked as a therapist and an area manager in the health-care field before becoming a financial analyst for Phoenix Life Insurance Co. and chief financial officer for Charter Oak Trust Co.

Besides being in the midst of budget season, Detweiler’s departure comes as other changes are being made in the school district’s central office.

Last week. Geryk announced that Monica Hall, the principal at Fort River School, would leave that post in July and assume the long-vacant position as director of diversity and equity. Her $94,840 salary will be paid, in part, through the retirement in the central office of another administrator who has not yet been identified.
