Westfield man killed in North King Street collision in Northampton Friday identified

NORTHAMPTON — Charles “Carl” Pierce, 84, of Westfield, was the man who died in a motor vehicle collision Friday, according to the Northwestern district attorney’s office.
The two-vehicle collision occurred near the Interstate 91 interchange on North King Street in Northampton. Pierce’s vehicle sustained heavy damage on the driver’s side, where it was struck by the front end of the other involved vehicle, a pickup truck, a statement from the district attorney’s office said. There were no passengers in either vehicle. Both drivers were transported to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield where Pierce was pronounced dead. The other driver was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The cause and circumstances of the collision remain under investigation by the Northampton Police Department and the state police detective unit assigned to the Northwestern district attorney’s office.
