NORTHAMPTON - Educators at the R.K. Finn Ryan Road School are trying a novel approach to solve a potential bullying problem: They've sent letters to 12 families informing them their fifth-graders have teased, bullied or encouraged such behavior in recent months and invited parents to meet with teachers Tuesday in a bid to resolve it.

With a refugee population in the millions, skirmishes still breaking out in western Sudan, two pivotal elections on the horizon, and oil reserves at stake, the situation in Darfur - officially characterized by the U.S. as genocide in 2006 - is far from resolved.

Northampton - A free day-long training for Neighborhood Watch scheduled for Friday, Feb. 26, is by invitation only.
The training is geared specifically for city councilors, a designee from each ward, and law enforcement personnel. Space is limited.
