Job title and company: Vice president of operations, Peaceful Pool & Spa Inc., Red Rock Plaza, 15 College Highway, Southampton.

Age: 46

Your duties: Run the retail store and e-commerce. Sell pools, spas, saunas and supplies. We also offer service and installation.

How did you land your job? Having worked for a pool distributor for 15 years, I knew there was a need in the area for a pool supply and service store.

What’s most challenging about your work? Being a new start-up company there has been a lot to learn about the ins and outs of running your own business. It has been challenging, but at the same time the best experience anyone could have. Right now we’re living the American dream.

What do you like about your job? Being able to wake up every morning knowing that we were able to start our own business is very rewarding. It was also very rewarding when our kids come to help out during the summer and see that hard work does pay off and that one day the store will be successful enough that they are able to make it their career.

What is your key to success? The support of my family and wife, Barbara, who encouraged me to start the business.

How do you feel the Valley economy will fare this year? I feel hopeful that the economy will pick up.

Why did you choose to do business in the Valley? Because of my past work experience, my wife and I knew there was no other pool stores in the Southampton area. We saw a need and acted upon it.

Who has helped mentor you professionally? My wife, Barbara, if the truth be told. I was a little nervous starting my own business, but she gave me the support and encouragement I needed to take that leap. We work well as a team.

Name a few of your goals for the coming year: Reach out to new customers and grow the business.

Tell us a little-known fact about you: I am an open book. Ask me anything and I will tell you.

What is your advice for others seeking business success? To believe in yourself and take that leap, no matter how scary it may seem. There is nothing more rewarding than getting out of bed every day to work on something that you started from the ground up. No boss can ever take that away from you.
