College Hoop Week Guide: Nov. 26
I voted Duke No. 1.
I'm curious how many of my A.P. voting colleagues joined me.
I don't like to knock a team out of No. 1 who didn't lose because being No. 1 means something. To the team to the fan base etc. And Indiana hasn't done anything to get bounced.
But by the same token, my preseason predictive powers, while good, aren't to be trusted more than actually results. Duke beat then-No. 2 Louisville and then-No. 3 Kentucky already as well as a very good Minnesota team.
Indiana beat Georgetown, who is pretty solid and a Bryant team that upset mighty Boston College, but it's resume isn't quite the same.
So for now the Blue Devils are my No. 1

Games of the Day
MONDAY - Nothing. Not even Monday night football is worth watching. Clean the house. Wash your hair. Holiday shop. Get it all out of the way. Rest of the week is much better
TUESDAY - North Carolina at Indiana, 9:30 p.m., NC State at Michigan, 7:30 p.m. - ACC-Big 10 challenge should be terrific.
WEDNESDAY - Ohio State at Duke, 9:30 p.m. - Duke's stay at my No. 1 could be short.
THURSDAY - Marquette at Florida, 9 p.m.; Kentucky at ND, 7 - The SEC vs. Big East challenge should be pretty impressive as well.
FRIDAY - Tennessee at Georgetown, 6:30 - This one intrigues more than most. I don't have a great handle on either team yet.
SATURDAY: Baylor at Kentucky, 12:30, St. Joe’s at Creighton, 3, San Diego St. at UCLA, 10
SUNDAY: Cal at Wisconsin, 4; Wichita State at Air Force, 5
NEW NICKNAME PLEASE: Arizona -Wildcats are a weak nickname in all instances (Kentucky is on notice too). But when you're a team in the desert, there's too many better options. There's a lot of good choices here:
My favorite is the Javelinas, But I would accept: Pronghorns, Scorpions, Roadrunners or Turkey Vultures among desert animals.
Given Tucson's love of John Dillinger - Bandits or Bank Robbers would be a pretty terrific nickname too.
Question I don't know the answer to: Is UCLA even an NCAA Tournament team?
Fearless Predictions: NC State bounces back and its game with Michigan is a classic.
Buzzer Beaters: Remember when Ben Howland and Jay Wright were the future of the Big East. Will either be employed next year?
