Ka-ching! How to get a discount ... without even asking
Shopping for a winter coat last week, someone I know was put off by the fact that the coat he wanted was full
price, even though it had been on sale just a few days earlier. He suspected it would be discounted again before too long. So he asked the salesperson: When's the next sale? The answer was along the lines of "We never know. In fact, you'd better buy it now because it might never go on sale again."
That's OK, he answered. I'll wait.
With that, the salesperson disappeared for a few moments. When he returned, he had good news: a 20 percent discount.
Consumer experts often advise asking stores for a discount on big-ticket items, but for a lot of people that's
awkward, not to mention a little tacky. But show that you're definitely interested in purchasing the item - and mention that you don't mind waiting for a sale - and the store may offer a discount on the spot.
