Weekend planner — music

“Philosophically, we reject the music industry’s and — let’s face it — society’s attempts to have women compete with each other and instead foster a spirit of collaboration, cooperation and symbiosis,” says Katie Sachs of the Pioneer Valley Woman Songwriting Collective, an entity organized this past spring by local female singer-songwriters to promote one another’s music through shared resources, instrumental backing and support.

On Saturday the six members of the collective— Carolyn Walker, Chrisa Joy, Wishbone Zoe, Lexi Weege (pictured), Lisa Marie Ellingsen and Sachs — will be at the VFW in Florence to perform as a part of a beer-and-wine tasting fundraiser for Valley Free Radio.

“Appearing together, we combine multiple genres and instrumentation to create a singer-songwriter-in-the-round experience that is rare and very special” says Joy.

5-9 p.m. Tickets at valleyfreeradio.org. The VFW is at 18 Meadow St. in Florence.
