Weekend planner – Film
A new monthly series highlighting the work of filmmakers associated with Hampshire College’s nationally recognized film and media department, New Filmmakers at Historic Northampton begins with a screening on Sunday of two works by Tanzanian-born writer/director Erick Msumanje: “My Mother’s Songs,” an examination of intergenerational trauma through the eyes of young African women trying to make sense of their legacy of chronic poverty, brutal colonialism and shattered dreams of independence, and “The Devil’s House,” a short film about a mysterious young man’s journey through clouded memory, displacement and trauma.
“This is an opportunity for the Pioneer Valley community to see a broad range of memorable, independently produced films by a new generation of Hampshire College alums,” says series curator Abraham Ravett.
3 p.m. Free admission. Historic Northampton is at 46 Bridge St. historic-northampton.org
