20 FEET FROM STARDOM: Backup singers live in a world that lies just beyond the spotlight. This documentary takes a look at who these singers are and the lives they lead. Stars Merry Clayton, Lisa Fischer, Judith Hill. Rated PG-13.

BLUE JASMINE: A life crisis causes a vapid and narcissistic socialite (Cate Blanchette) to head to San Francisco, where she tries to reconnect with her sister (Sally Hawkins). Also stars Alec Baldwin. Rated PG-13.

ELYSIUM: In the year 2154 two classes of people exist: the very wealthy who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. Anti-immigration laws on Elysium are strictly enforced, but one man, Max (Matt Damon), takes on a mission that could bring equality to the polarized populations. PERCY JACKSON: SEA OF MONSTERS: In order to restore their dying safe haven, the son of Poseidon and his friends embark on a quest to the Sea of Monsters to find the mythical Golden Fleece while trying to stop an ancient evil from rising. PLANES: Dusty (the voice of Dane Cook) is a crop-dusting plane who dreams of competing in a famous aerial race. The problem? He is hopelessly afraid of heights. With the support of his mentor Skipper (the voice of Stacy Keach) and a host of new friends, Dusty sets off to make his dreams come true. RIDDICK: Left for dead on a sun-scorched planet, Riddick finds himself up against an alien race of predators. Activating an emergency beacon alerts two ships: one carrying a new breed of mercenary, the other captained by a man from Riddick’s past. Rated R.

THE SMURFS 2: The Smurfs team up with their human friends to rescue Smurfette (the voice of Katy Perry), who has been kidnapped by Gargamel (Hank Azaria) since she knows a secret spell that can turn the evil sorcerer’s newest creation — creatures called the Naughties — into real Smurfs. THE WAY WAY BACK: Fourteen-year-old Duncan (Liam James) is on summer vacation with his mother (Toni Collette) and her overbearing boyfriend (Steve Carell), and he’s having a rough time fitting in.
