Arts editor Kathleen Mellen’s best bets for the weekend

BOOGIE TO THE BEAT

The last time I went to a “Django in June” concert, I found the Gypsy jazz music, made famous by Django Reinhardt, so infectious that I couldn’t stop bopping and wiggling in my seat, in time to the music. I might have been embarrassed if the rest of the crowd wasn’t also doing some serious seat boogie-ing. Two performances wrap up this year’s festival Saturday and Sunday, 7:30 p.m. at the Academy of Music, Northampton. www.academyofmusictheatre.com.

ANOTHER GOOD BET

They say growing old is better than the alternative. On Monday at 7 p.m., local writers Pat and Peter Schneider, Zane Kotker, Sally Bellerose and John Berkowitz share their thoughts on the matter in a program titled “Growing Older: Valley Poets & Writers on the Joys and Challenges of Aging” at Whately Congregational Church. Free. A BYO picnic precedes the readings at 6.
