Steve Pfarrer’s Best Bets
It was back in 1998 that pianist Tom McClung, one of the Valley’s leading jazz players, decamped for the bright lights of Paris, where he’s lived ever since. His career has taken him across Europe but he returns to this region at least once a year, and Sunday you can hear him play at the First Congregational Church in Amherst at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10.
ANOTHER GOOD BET
Veteran novelist and poet Marge Piercy, author of “Gone to Soldiers” and the more recent historical novel “Sex Wars,” is spending this weekend in Amherst as a scholar-in-residence at the Jewish Community of Amherst. She’ll give a public reading there on Saturday at 7 p.m. The event includes a dessert/wine reception. Preregistration is required. Tickets are $20 ($18 for students). 256-0160.
