Gabriel Ripley of Easthampton lives ink. The owner of Off the Map (two tattoo shops) and TattooNow (a Web development company for tattoo artists), Ripley is a busy man. When he’s not working on a new project, fundraiser or gathering, he’s teaching — most of which has to do with getting inked, celebrating ink or promoting ink.

Full name: Gabriel Ripley

People know you as: Gabe

Date and place of birth: Oct. 28, 1974, New Haven, Conn.

Job: Small business owner

Who lives under the same roof as you? My wife, Kim Lee, my daughter, Cecelia, 10, and our dog, Roscoe

Education: Two-time Hampshire College dropout

Hobbies: Work (and listening to music)

Book you’d recommend to a friend: “Founding Brothers: The Revolutionary Generation” by Joseph J. Ellis

Favorite singer: Neil Young

Five items you can’t live without: To the best of my knowledge there are no items that I won’t be able to live without. My wedding ring would be the item that comes closest

Last thing you purchased just for fun: I made a payment on a e_SSRq75 Shovelhead Harley-Davidson

What’s at the top of your bucket list? A comfortable death

Life-changing experience: Besides my marriage and child, my last trip to Italy was pretty life-changing in more ways than one. I had talked my way into teaching at the Worldwide Tattoo Conference in Rome. After a weeklong RV trip from Venice to Florence to Rome I taught a Business for Tattooers seminar for over 200 tattooers, which was a pretty heavy step. Another outcome from that trip was our partnership with the unbelievable Jeff Gogue to open a second location. The Off the Map Tattoo Northwest in Grants Pass, Ore., has been open for 10 months now, and it’s pretty exciting hustling a location on the other coast! I’ve had my fair share of adventures, but that trip certainly fits as life-changing

Strangest job you ever held: This one. The tattoo world can be very strange. And we have been dug in for a long time in a few different ways and as we keep growing and pushing things we have found ourselves doing some pretty strange things in some pretty strange places with some extremely strange people. We keep it all positive, though

The last thing you tweeted: “Thanks for the iMovie tips Joe King!” (posted with a link to a TattooNow live webcast)

Dumbest thing you ever did: Wow, there are way too many to list! I suppose you can’t have more than one dumbest, but somehow I think I’ve made that happen

One trend you’d like to see return: Entertainment companies that invest in quality music, movies and art

What really sets you off? Wasted opportunity. And people who fight against their own best interests

If you could spend the day with a celebrity from any time in history, who would it be? Socrates or one of the other old Greeks. I’d love to see how things were done back then compared to now

Best advice you ever got: Life isn’t fair

Favorite place to get a bite: Osaka in Northampton, because it’s tasty and healthy

What does your ideal weekend look like? Vacation with the family

One thing you would change about yourself: I’d love to be able to have a regular work and sleep schedule. My patterns are all over the place and because I work on the computer I can always open up my laptop and work from wherever, whenever

Whom do you most admire? Noam Chomsky or Thom Hartmann because of the clarity and consistency of their teachings

Parting shot: Go big or go home. Wait, how about: Think first — mistakes are easy to make and hard to fix. Or: You get out what you put in. Don’t be stupid? Wake up?
