Weekend planner — Kids
Tom Knight is a storyteller/puppeteer, Christine Olson and Meg Kelsey-Wright are pianists and Russ Nieman plays percussion — together they’re The Four Story Players, who specialize in bringing classical musical stories to life. On Sunday afternoon they’ll be at the 1794 Meetinghouse in New Salem for a program that includes “The Sorcerer’s Cauldron” (story by Tom Knight and Christine Olson, music by Albert Elmenreich and William Gillock); “Anitra the Ladybug” (story by Tom Knight, music by Edvard Grieg from his “Peer Gynt Suite”); plus Sergei Prokofiev’s “Peter and the Wolf.”
“Listening to them brings out a sense of great, almost childlike joy, as you can finally see music which may be familiar to you explode into a powerful story that is as riveting as a musical performance or a puppet show can possibly be,” writes film critic and Four Story Players fan Brian Lloyd.
Admission to the 4 p.m. performance is $10, with children 12 and under free. The 1794 Meetinghouse is located on the New Salem Town Common. www.1794meetinghouse.org or 978-544-5200.
