Weekend Planner — Music

Hailed by Billboard magazine as “the most alluring jazz vocal album of 2009,” New York jazz vocalist Gretchen Parlato’s sophomore release, “In a Dream,” was also acclaimed by NPR, Jazz Times, The Village Voice and The Boston Globe. Her 2011 release, “The Lost and Found,” received over 30 national and international awards, and she was subsequently named winner of the 2012 Jazz Journalists Award for Best Female Vocalist.

This year Parlato is back with a new CD, “Live from NYC,” which All About Jazz calls “a study in suspension. Parlato puts her voice and phrasing into the ether, seemingly where it exists attached to nothing. ... Parlato’s music is pure music, with genres aside.”

On Friday she and her quartet will be at Amherst College’s Buckley Recital Hall for an 8 p.m. concert. $18 general; $12 seniors; $10 students. 542-2195, concerts@amherst.edu
