Finding this translucent spider suspended outside my upstairs window reminded me of how much we’ll miss the nature photos of former Gazette photographer Gordon Daniels, who retired last summer and who always seemed to know what kind of fauna or flora he had “captured.” With help from Valley entomologist Brian Schultz, our best guess is that this is an orchard spider awaiting her morning meal. Conveniently enough, we do live about two blocks from an orchard. But how far can a spider walk? The answer, of course, is blowing in the wind. (Go ahead. Groan.)
