WILLIAMSBURG — Firefighters from six departments responded to a blaze that caused extensive damage to a Chesterfield Road home on Tuesday afternoon.

Fire Chief Jason Connell said the residents were home at the time and called around 12:45 p.m. to report that the house was filling with smoke.

Fire crews found heavy fire in the basement and managed to knock it down quickly, Connell said.

The residents made it out safely, and no one was injured.

The home’s basement was heavily damaged, and there’s extensive smoke damage to the rest of the house, Connell said, estimating damages at $80,000 to $100,000. The residents are staying elsewhere with family, he said.

The state fire marshal will determine the cause of the blaze.

Williamsburg firefighters were assisted on scene by crews from Northampton, Chesterfield, Goshen, Whately and South Deerfield, Connell said. Highland Ambulance, Pioneer Valley Ambulance and Williamsburg police also responded to the scene.
