Center Dans Locmelis will join the UMass hockey program for the 2023-24 season, the Minutemen announced. He was a fourth round pick by the Boston Bruins in 2022 and scored 59 points with 25 goals for Lulea HF of the Swedish Hockey League’s U20 team. Locmelis has represented Latvia at each of the past two World Junior Championships. He has four goals and five points in 11 games at that level.

RETURN TRIP – UMass will visit Minnesota State early in the college hockey season, according to the Mavericks schedule released Thursday. The Minutemen will play two games in Mankato on October 20 and 21.

It’s a return series for the Mavericks’ visit to the Mullins Center to open the 2021 season.
