UMass basketball: Minutewomen's season comes to an end with 81-57 loss to Duquesne in Atlantic 10 tourney second round

After an opening-round victory over La Salle on Wednesday, the UMass women’s basketball team was unable to keep its Atlantic 10 Tournament run going on Thursday.
The 13th-seeded Minutewomen fell into a double-digit deficit after the first quarter and were unable to climb back in an 81-57 second-round loss to No. 5 Duquesne in Henrico, Va.
UMass finished its season 5-27 overall. Duquesne advanced to Friday’s quarterfinal round and a matchup with No. 4 George Mason at 1:30 p.m.
Duquesne held a 44-29 edge in rebounding and limited the Minutewomen to just 39 percent shooting from the floor.
Kristin Williams and Stefanie Kulesza led UMass with 11 points apiece, while Alexsia Rose followed with nine points and Tori Hyduke added seven points.
Duquesne (19-11) led 21-10 after one quarter and 39-26 at halftime. Megan McConnell paced the Dukes with 21 points.
Northampton Suburban
Behind an 18-point, 11-rebound double-double from Keira Cole, the Northampton grades 7 and 8 Suburban League girls basketball team advanced to the championship game via a 50-41 win over Longmeadow on Wednesday night.
