NORTHAMPTON — Staples closed the doors on its North King Street store in Northampton for good on Saturday.

The 122 N. King St. store is closing because of lower profit margins and the expiration of its lease, a store representative said. The representative also said that all employees were given the chance to transfer to other stores.

“We continually evaluate our store performance to ensure we’re operating the business in the best way,” spokeswoman Kaleigh Sands wrote in an email. “As customers shift online, we are taking aggressive action to right-size our retail footprint.”

She also said that area customers will still be able to shop at the company’s Greenfield and Hadley locations and at Staples.com
