Duty to educate children about healthy food choices

In the June 4 letters, a writer disputes the new policy at JFK Middle School limiting the kinds of snacks made available to the students (“Snack choices should be up to each individual”).

Her argument is that “You can’t go to a restaurant and tell them that they can’t sell desserts/snacks because it’ll make them obese.”

She is wrong. You can do that if you own the restaurant, and we own our schools and have the perfect right and the duty to educate our children to make healthy food choices.
