Monday’s colleges: UMass baseball rallies to beat Bucknell

The UMass baseball team scored once in the eighth and three times in the ninth to rally for a 10-9 win over Bucknell, in Kissimmee, Florida, Monday.

Eddy Hart’s grounder scored Brett Evangelista in the eighth to pull UMass within 9-7.

After working the bases loaded in the ninth, Nolan Kessinger scored on a wild pitch. Evangelista’s sacrifice fly scored Cooper Mrowka (3-for-3, three RBIs) and Connor Smith singled up the middle to plate Alec Norton with the winning run.

Hart was 2-for-4 with three runs scored for the Minutemen (3-3).

Amherst 6-5, Wisconsin Lutheran 2-1 — Harry Roberson had two sacrifice flies, while Ryan Hardin added one in Game 2 in Fort Myers, Florida. Ryan Sholtis, Zach Horwitz and Andrew Ferrero combined for a four-hitter.

Nick Nardone was 3-for-3, while Topher Brown had three RBIs in Game 1 for Amherst (2-1).


Amherst 9, Westfield State 1; Amherst 9, Geneseo 1 — Andrea Sanders and Annie McCluskey each went 3-for-3 as the Mammoths beat the Owls in Clermont, Florida.

Kate Kopatic was 4-for-4 and Ally Kido was 3-for-4 against Geneseo. Audrey Hansen (four RBIs) and Ally Kido hit solo homers in the seventh.

Stockton 15, Smith 9; Endicott 15, Smith 7 — Konas, Wagner and Townsend (four RBIs) each had three hits, but the Pioneers (1-5) dropped the doubleheader in Minneola, Florida.

Women’s tennis

Pomona-Pitzer 5, Amherst 4 — Avery Wagman and Anya Ivenitsky won 8-3 at first doubles, and Maddie Dewire and Camille Smukler won 8-5 at the three spot, but the Mammoths (0-2) couldn’t pull it out in singles play in Claremont, California.

Men’s tennis

Amherst 7, Carnegie Mellon 2 — The mammoths (2-0) swept doubles en route to the win in Claremont, California.
