NORTHAMPTON — The man accused in a December 2021 fatal shooting in Northampton will stand trial Nov. 13.

Hampshire Superior Court Judge Richard Carey set the date for the trial at a hearing Wednesday.

Steven J. Malloy, 33, is charged with first-degree murder and illegal possession of a firearm in the death of Pittsfield resident Joseph R. Fillio, 39.

According to the Northwestern district attorney’s office, police were summoned to a Randolph Place apartment by a bystander late in the evening of Dec. 1, 2021, where they found Fillio suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.

Fillio was taken by ambulance to Baystate Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. Malloy was subsequently found after a search and placed under arrest.

Assistant Northwestern District Attorney Matthew Thomas is prosecuting the case on behalf of the commonwealth. Malloy is represented by defense attorney Joseph M. Perullo of Boston.
