Local briefs: Belchertown Twirlers star at nationals & JamrogHVAC keeps the crown

Belchertown’s Emelia Maldanis, Evelyn Maldanis and Delaney Ochs represented the Belchertown Twirlers at the National Baton Twirling Championships in South Bend, Indiana.

Emelia Maldanis, 11, and Ochs, 10, placed fourth in the Advanced Duet Competition. They were third after the preliminary round and entered a twirl off after that. Emelia also took fourth in the pre-teen advanced solo one baton, third in the intermediate 2 baton and fourth place in showtwirl.

Ochs was fifth in the juvenile all-American girl modeling, seventh in the advance solo one baton and ninth in the advanced two baton field.

Evelyn Maldanis, eight, took ninth in novice two baton and 10th in novice strut and all-American girl modeling.

The competitors were coached by Kristi Ochs, Cate Senecal, Brittani Ladd and Barbara Kupras. The Belchertown Twirlers program runs through the Belchertown Recreation Department and is hosting a four-week summer clinic that includes marching in the fair parade.

JAMROGHVAC KEEPS THE CROWN – JamrogHVAC capped an undefeated Northampton Summer A coed softball season with a championship. The 21-0 squad took out Surner Heatin 12-6 for its sixth straight title and ninth since 2009. 

The team also competes in charity and fundraising tournaments all around the region. Belchertown resident Patrick Fenton manages the team and plays for them. The rest of the roster includes Molly Fenton, Maria Fabozzi, Anthony Fabozzi, Joe Fabozzi, Johnny Hayes, Scotty Laflamm, Emma LeBlanc, Lauren LeBlanc, Shauna Looze, Stephen Looze,  Beth Rist, Kevin Rogers, Meghan Shewchuk, Amanda Wendt, Kate Ellis, Laura Rousseau, Monique Tanguay, and Jeff “JZ News” Zach.
