South Hadley’s Emma Sanford earns All-American honors in pentathlon at New Balance Nationals

Emma Sanford finished off her high school career with a bang, earning an All-American nod in the pentathlon over the weekend at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals at Franklin Field in Philadelphia, Penn. 

Sanford placed fourth overall in the pentathlon with a score of 3,372 points. Her best event was the shot put, where she placed fourth with a throw of 34 feet, 4.75 inches. 

Also at the New Balance meet was Amherst’s Logan Alfandari, who competed in both the discus and shot put events. Alfandari placed 27th in the discus (137-5) and 34th in the shot put (45-9). 

Freshman Nicolas Lisle finished 27th in the 800 run with a time of 2:03.03.

At the Nike National meet in Eugene, Ore., Northampton brought a bevy of athletes to compete in a variety of events. 

The relay team of Camilla Brewer, Ella Hoogendyk, Kira French and Norah Reade placed sixth overall in the sprint medley to earn All-American honors in the Emerging Elite category with a time of 4:25.54. 

The boys’ 4x100 meter relay team of Jake Fein, Rowan Hodgson, Juan Jose Adams Causton and Jimmy Moore placed 10th in the Emerging Elite category with a time of 45.15. Also placing 10th in their event was the boys’ 1600 sprint medley team of Fein, Hodgson, Adams Causton and Jack Kamins, who ran a 3:44.20 in the sprint medley championship. 

The boys’ 4x800 meter relay team of Davis Wheat, Jude Mourad, Teddy King-Pollet and Kamins placed 12th in the Emerging Elite category with a time of 8:25.87.

Camilla Brewer placed 13th in the Emerging Elite triple jump (34-9.75) and Allie Sullivan ran a 13.23-second time in the freshman 100 dash to place 26th in the event.

Frontier’s Evan Hedlund placed 17th in the middle school mile run (4:43.83) and 19th in the middle school 1500 meter run (4:27.37). 

Mohawk Trail’s Emmett Johnson placed 68th in the 1500 meter with a time of 4:33.11 and 67th in the mile with a 4:52.24.
