Leverett lawyer tapped for judgeship

Tuesday, October 03, 2017

LEVERETT — A Leverett resident has been nominated to become an administrative judge for the state’s Industrial Accidents Board.

Thomas B. Daniels, with 30 years of litigation experience working in insurance defense, had his name submitted to the Governor’s Council by Gov. Charlie Baker last week.

“Thomas Daniels has a deep understanding of the Massachusetts Workers’ Comp System,” Baker said in a statement. “He has a strong record in litigation and is experienced in dispute resolution, which will serve the Department of Industrial Accidents well.”

Workers compensation cases that do not reach an agreement go to the board for a conference before an administrative judge. Daniels would be one of 21 judges serving in that role.

Daniels currently serves as a senior trial attorney defending workers’ compensation claims for Travelers Insurance at the Law Offices of Steven B. Stein in Springfield. He graduated from Dickinson College in 1979 and received a juris doctorate from Western New England School of Law in 1988.

Daniels lives with his wife of 33 years, Susan, and their two children, Rose and John.
