In response to Nancy Grossman’s guest column [“How to keep right on going in Gaza,” Gazette, May 4], my view is as follows: Not complicated — 1) Cease-fire now 2) Hamas is a terrorist organization 3) Netanyahu is a criminal 4) Oct. 7 was a horrific act 5) Killing thousands of innocent Gazans is also horrific. Complicated — 1) Israel’s pathway forward, one-state or two-state solution 2) Protesting is protected speech, criticizing Israel is not antisemitic, but antisemitism is on the rise 3) History (1968) suggests that protest movements can help elect a criminal (Nixon). Will the current movement help to elect another criminal (Trump)?

The writer characterizes the current situation vis-a-vis Israel with simplistic rhetoric, either one categorically condemns Israel, or you are lying. The truth is much more complicated.
