High schools: PVCICS boys soccer blanks Franklin Tech, 5-0

Five different players found the back of the net for the Pioneer Valley Chinese Immersion Charter School boys soccer team on Friday afternoon in a 5-0 shutout win over Franklin Tech.

Teddy Scott, Julian Lee-Choi, James Scott, Nolan Gage and Patrick Canavan-Gosselin scored, with Gage and Scott also notching an assist each.

Alexandra Hyrne and Clayton English added a helper apiece, and goalies Richard Ang and Damian Loinaz made one stop each.

Frontier 8, Southwick 0 – Frontier and Southwick played for 60 minutes before weather ended their match prematurely, but that was plenty of time for the Redhawks to score more than enough goals to cinch the win. 

Chanhee Son and Roscoe Palmer had a pair of goals each, with Aidan Valderrama, Wyatt Finch, Grayson Bishop and Diego Frazier also scoring for the Redhawks. Chanmin Son, Chanhee Son, Gus Radnor and Jack Storm all had an assist in the win, with Valderrama adding a couple of assists to his goal. 

Goalies Owen Babb and Jack Cusson split time in net, with Babb making one save to preserve the shutout. 

Hopkins 0, Mount Everett 0 – Neither Hopkins nor Mount Everett could get the scoring going before lightning ended their contest prematurely after the first half. 

Girls volleyball

Amherst 3, Chicopee 0 – Liza Beigel was a force both on defense and on the service line on Friday, posting seven aces and 18 digs for the ‘Canes in a three set win (25-14, 25-7, 25-15).

Ruby Austin added another seven aces and six kills, Lauren Joy accumulated 15 kills and five aces along with one block, and Abigail Como and Annabel Ogden had 16 and 10 assists, respectively. 

Field hockey

East Longmeadow 6, Smith Academy 0 – Though the game was called due to weather during the middle of the third quarter, East Longmeadow and Smith Academy played enough to get a final score on Friday. 

Smith Academy goalie Madison Didonna-Renner made 20 saves in net, holding down the fort early to keep the score 1-0 after the first quarter. 

Longmeadow 1, Frontier 0 – Frontier couldn’t solve Longmeadow’s goalie on Friday, falling 1-0 in a tight matchup.

Redhawks keeper Kyra Richards stopped five shots in net. Frontier had five corner opportunities but failed to convert any of them. 

Girls soccer

Monson 7, Granby 1 – Kalli White scored once for the Rams and keeper Eleanor Szlosek made seven saves in the loss to Monson.

The defeat drops Granby’s record to 0-2. 

Hopkins 4, Greenfield 1 – Hopkins scored four goals in 47 minutes of play before lighting ended its contest against Greenfield early. 

Helen Vissas netted a pair while teammate Alayna Bailey notched a goal and an assist. Chloe Kociusko scored the Golden Hawks’ other goal while Sadie Cyr, Juliana Eichenlaub and Margaret Potter all finished with an assist. 

Goaltender Emmalyn Schmidt made one stop for Hopkins to pick up the win.
