Hilltown ambulance sets community meeting

HUNTINGTON — Pioneer Valley Planning Commission and Hilltown Community Ambulance Association staff and board of directors will host an information meeting Thursday, April 18, from 7 to 8 p.m. at Stanton Hall.

The purpose is to discuss the challenges faced by the rural ambulance association, and seek voter support at this spring’s town meetings.

The association serves the communities of Blandford, Chester, Huntington, Montgomery, Russell and Worthington, with a total population of 8,192 as of the last census and an area of 189 square miles.

Refreshments will be served. The Pioneer Valley Planning Commission’s recently completed report on the future of Hilltown Community Ambulance Association can be downloaded from the town of Worthington’s website.

St. Philip’s consignment sale on horizon

EASTHAMPTON — St. Philip’s Episcopal Church is preparing to stage its 12th semi-annual All 4 Her Consignment Sale of gently used women’s and teens’ clothing and accessories, footwear, jewelry, and new cosmetics, as well as small household, gift, and seasonal items.

The sale will be open to the public at St. Philip’s Parish Hall, 128 Main St., on Friday, April 26, from 6-9 p.m. and Saturday, April 27, from 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m., with most items half-price from 1-2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Proceeds from the sale will help fund the church’s ministries to support local food-insecure adults and children.

Easthampton Fire graduates one from academy

EASTHAMPTON — Jake Antosz of the Easthampton Fire Department is one of 16 local firefighters to graduate from the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy’s 50-day Career Recruit Firefighting Training Program.

To graduate, students must demonstrate proficiency in life safety, search and rescue, ladder operations, water supply, pump operation, and fire attack.

Amherst Cinema to host filmmaker Michael Gitlin

AMHERST — Amherst Cinema welcomes filmmaker Michael Gitlino on Thursday, April 18, at 7 p.m., for a screening of his film “The Night Visitors,” which world premiered at the 2023 New York Film Festival. Following the screening, Gitlin will answer questions from the audience.

The film screens as part of Amherst Cinema’s Bellwether series. Having hosted over 100 visiting artists since its founding in 2015, Bellwether celebrates fresh approaches to cinema while engaging filmmakers and filmgoers in post-screening conversations. Since 2020, Bellwether has been supported by annual grants from the National Endowment for the Arts. Bellwether is co-curated by Myers and Pioneer Valley-based filmmaker Luke Meyer.

Tickets to “The Night Visitors” are available through Amherst Cinema’s website, or in person at the Amherst Cinema box office, which opens 20 minutes before the first showtime of the day. Amherst Cinema members receive free admission to all Bellwether screenings.
