Hawaii offensive coordinator Nick Rolovich reportedly joining UMass staff
AMHERST - The offensive coordinator who helped Hawaii become one of the most productive offenses in Football Bowl Subdivision is reportedly joining Charley Molnar's staff at the University of Massachusetts.
According to coachingsearch.com, Nick Rolovich will be the Minutemen's new offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. With Rolovich leading the offense in 2010, the Warriors became the second squad in NCAA history with a 5,000-yard passer, a 1,000-yard rusher and two 1,000-yard receivers.
The former Hawaii quarterback was let go along with the rest of the coaching staff when head coach Greg McMackin was fired, a move that according to media reports did not result from the performance of the offense.
A California native, Rolovich graduated from Hawaii in 2001 then played in NFL Europe where he helped lead Rhein to a World Bowl. He also played for five years in the Arena League.
Ron Hudson, who was New Mexico's offensive line coach this past season, also will likely be added to Molnar's staff.
Molnar's son, who is also named Charley and was a graduate assistant at Buffalo last season, is also expected to join the staff.
Meanwhile, former Minuteman coach Kevin Morris is reportedly bringing his talents to South Beach. Morris, who has spent most of his time in college football in Massachusetts, is expected to be hired as the offensive coordinator at Florida International.
