UMass field hockey falls to BU

A two-goal first-half deficit proved to be too much for the University of Massachusetts field hockey team to overcome, as the Minutewomen fell to undefeated Boston University 2-1 in Cambridge on Sunday.

The Terriers (4-0) took a 2-0 lead into halftime, but UMass' Katie Kelly scored the equalizer in the 42nd minute on an assist by Thando Zono to cut the deficit in half.

The Minutewomen (1-3) spent the game's final 28 minutes putting pressure on BU goalie Julie Collins (three saves) but couldn't find the equalizer. UMass outshot the Terriers 6-4 in the second half and had six penalty corners after the break while allowing none.

Alesha Widdall made five saves in goal for UMass, while Amanda smith had zero in the first half for BU.
