UMass seniors named football preseason All-Americans

Two University of Massachusetts senior football players Thursday were named to the Sports Network Championship Subdivision Preseason All-America team.

Offensive lineman Vladimir Ducasse and safety Jeromy Miles were both named to the second of three preseason teams.

Ducasse, was an honorable mention All-American last season and was a first-team All-Colonial Athletic Association pick.

Miles was a Sports Network second team All-American and first team All-CAA honoree last year. He had 104 tackles and three interceptions in 2008.

The two Minutemen were among 20 CAA players named to the Sports Network's All-American teams, the most from any conference. The league had eight first-team selections, six second-teamers and six on the third team. Villanova led the conference with four players honored.

COMINGS AND GOINGS - Running back Korrey Davis has transferred to Liberty to be closer to home. Davis rushed for 191 yards and two touchdowns last season as a freshman.

Former Minuteman reserve quarterback Scott Wallace has also transferred, and will play at Division II Cheyney State. The rising sophomore completed one of three pass attempts for 12 yards in his UMass career. He saw action against Bryant and Rhode Island.

Caleb Violette, a kicker who walked on at Virginia Tech last year has transferred to UMass, In high school Violette played for David Crist, whose son Brian Crist wide receivers coach at UMass.

CAA NOTES - Richmond extended coach Mike London's contract through the 2014 season, after the first-year head coach led the Spiders to the 2008 Football Championship Subdivision national title. Richmond will be playing its final season at Richmond Stadium before moving into an on-campus facility in 2010.

Old Dominion, which will join the CAA in 2011, begins play as an independent this fall. Georgia State is joining the CAA in 2012 and begins play as an independent next year.
