Beatrice Faulkingham, graduated college at 64

AMHERST - Beatrice Littlefield Faulkingham, 87, died peacefully on Sept. 5, at the Hospice of Fisher Home in Amherst.

She was born at home in Rochester, N.H., to the late Sarah May (Guptill) and Ralph Littlefield. She attended Rochester schools before marrying Lester Faulkingham, the son of a local minister. They settled in New Hampshire before moving to Arlington, South Dartmouth, and then Wellesley.

After Lester's retirement, they spent summers in Alton Bay, N.H., and wintered in Port Charlotte, Fla. Beatrice earned her bachelor of arts in liberal studies from Florida Southern College at the age of 64.

She was an avid reader of American history and a loyal Red Sox fan. She treasured old objects, hooking rugs, caning chairs, gardening, and traveling. She was a member of the Bay Church at Alton Bay and also of the Alton Garden Club.

Beatrice was predeceased by her husband Lester, brother Sidney Littlefield, and sister Barbara Freeman.

She leaves behind her children, Earline Faulkingham and her husband, Al, of Rotonda West, Fla., Ralph Faulkingham and his wife, Linda, of Pelham, and Evie Mann and her husband, Jack, of Eden, N.Y.; sister Dorothy Purvis of Rochester, N.H.; grandchildren David Valentine, Carol Lombardi, Sarah Rogowski, Lisa Hunt, Nathan Mann, and Megan Mann; 10 great-grandchildren; and 25 nieces and nephews.

Friends and family are invited to a graveside service at the Riverside Cemetery, Alton, N.H., on Saturday, Sept. 13, at 1 p.m., followed by a service at 2 p.m. to celebrate her life at the Bay Advent Christian Church in Alton Bay.

Her family extends their deep appreciation to the staff at Loomis House and the staff and volunteers of the Hospice of the Fisher Home who took loving care of Beatrice during her declining months.
