EASTHAMPTON — To start the search for a new superintendent, the School Committee wants to hear from residents.

Focus groups are scheduled for the next few weeks to gather information, and a survey is posted online.

The committee is also looking for 13 volunteers to serve on a search committee, which will be responsible for narrowing the semifinalist field of 10-12 candidates to three to five finalists.

Superintendent Nancy Follansbee is retiring June 30, 2018, after eight years. The committee aims to have a successor on board before Follansbee leaves.

The Massachusetts Association of School Committees Inc. was hired earlier this month for the search. MASC will present semifinalists to the search committee on Feb. 26. The search committee will interview the job candidates and present a list of three to five finalists to the School Committee on March 13.

For volunteers, the School Committee is looking for elementary, middle, high school and special education teachers, parents, an administrator, a support staff member, a community member, a student and a recent School Committee member.

To serve on the search committee, submit a statement of interest to the Easthampton Public Schools, Attention: Suzanne Colby, 50 Payson Ave. For more information contact Suzanne Colby at (413) 529-1500 ext. 121.
