CHARLEMONT — Tuesday marked the end of an era for the Pioneer Valley Chinese Immersion Charter School alpine ski team. For the first time in the program’s history – boys or girls – there won’t be a Scott on the team next season. Juliet Scott helped start the team in the winter of 2018 when her younger brothers, twins James and Teddy, were in sixth grade. The two were both on the inaugural boys team that season, and have been a part of the Dragons squad ever since.
It was a big Hampshire League North showdown at Mallet Gymnasium in Athol on Tuesday between the host Bears and Hampshire Regional.
The fifth PVIAC alpine ski meet took place at Berkshire East Mountain Resort on Tuesday as area skiers competed in the slalom.
The Amherst boys basketball team received 38 combined points from Mitchell Carey and Samuel Woodruff, but couldn’t pull out the road victory in its 61-53 loss to Longmeadow on Tuesday night.

For the last several years, the Northampton boys and girls alpine ski team has been chasing after Mohawk Trail for first place in the PVIAC League North. The Warriors are the cream of the crop when it comes to skiing in the area, and the Blue Devils are seemingly always right behind them year in and year out.
