■Mark R. Pontbriand, of Florence Street, Leeds, has received notification from the Connecticut State Pharmacy Commission that he has successfully passed the final state board examinations and is now a registered pharmacist. Pontbriand is a 1966 National Honor Society graduate of Northampton High School.

■The Mr. and Mrs. Club of St. Michael’s School is planning to hold its ever popular annual “Country Store” in March. Chair for this event is Crawford Dunn and co-chair is Mrs. Irving Guerin. The “Country Store” is held to raise funds for both St. Michael’s Grammar and High School.

25 Years Ago

■The annual Loud Music Festival, which brought thousands of rock fans to Northampton each spring since 1993, will be moving to Cambridge. Festival producer Trey Helliwell confirmed the move yesterday, citing financial reasons for leaving Northampton.

■Mayor Mary L. Ford went beyond the municipal budget in her state of the city address last night, urging Northampton residents to attend to the needs of the homeless and the city’s children. Ford devoted half of her 30-minute speech in the City Council chambers to the two social issues.

■City officials gathered with private developers last Thursday to celebrate one of the city’s more notable economic development projects. A groundbreaking ceremony for the Northampton I-91 Professional Center on Atwood Drive near the Clarion Hotel marks the end of a 10-year effort by the city to foster development on the site.

■Northampton native John Unsworth has been named vice provost for library and technology services and chief information officer at Brandeis University. Unsworth, who graduated from Northampton High School in 1975 and from Amherst College in 1981, has been dean of the Graduate School of Library and Information Science at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign since 2003.
